We're getting multiple reports this evening stating that Vin Lananna, director of the University of Oregon Track and Field program, is stepping down from his coaching duties with assistant head coach Robert Johnson taking over. Johnson was named the NCAA 2011 Women's Indoor Coach of the Year and has gotten a lot of credit for turning Oregon into a national powerhouse in sprinting. We don't have any information about timeline or when this is set to all take place except for the ominous "soon".

The Register-Guard is reporting that Lananna "will remain with the University of Oregon, but it's unclear in what capacity". There is speculation that this move could be an effort to free up Lananna to work towards turning Hayward Field into a 20,000 seat stadium capable of hosting the 2019 World Championships.

More on this as it develops.

UPDATE: Friend of the blog and the most handsome guy I know, Ken Goe, is reporting that Vin Lananna is NOT stepping down. This coming apparently via text message from Lananna himself. UO Spokeman Greg Walker says "He's not stepping down". Make sure to follow Ken Goe on twitter @kengoe

Interesting conflicting reports out there. We'll let you know if he ends up coaching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
