TEL: Goldman Adds to Conviction List on Automotive Rebound ...

Shares of TE Connectivity (TEL), formerly Tyco Electronics, are up 43 cents, or 1%, at $36.62 this morning after Goldman Sachs?s Craig Hettenbach added the stock to the firm?s ?Conviction List,? writing that expectations for its earnings ?have been reset such that TEL can beat estimates as the recovery strengthens.?

Hettenbach raised his price target on the shares from $39 to $45, noting that the stock could have ?catalysts? this year, in particular a rejuvenation of the company?s automotive electronics business:

We think TEL can grow its automotive business nearly 10% annually over the next few years?led by roughly mid-single-digit auto production growth and a re-acceleration in dollar content?which is 200-300 bp above Street expectations.

Moreover, the other markets for its wares seem like they may do a bit better than the Street is modeling:

A cyclical rebound in the comm (25% of sales) and industrial (10%) markets should drive better growth for TEL in the June quarter and through the rest of the year. And following disappointing margins in CY11, we expect an 85 bp rebound this year and 120 bp next year, well ahead of the expansion at peers.

Hettenbach raised his 2012 estimates to $14.53 billion in revenue and $3.26 per share in profit, up from a prior $14.45 billion and $3.22. The Street is at $14.09 billion and $3.01, he notes.

Leading Cross-Cultural Conflict Resolution ? Maximum Change Inc

Interpretive misunderstanding is central to cross-cultural conflict resolution. When dealing with Asian culture, for example, Westerners often interpret their silence as consent (Lindo, 2012). However, the Asian culture employs an indirect method of handling conflict which is often misinterpreted as ?(1) lack of courage to confront the person (2) unwillingness to deal with the issue, (3) lack of commitment to solve the problem or (4) refusal to take responsibility for one?s actions? (Elmer, 1993, p 52). Asian managers interpret Westerners as unreasonable and lack respect (Lindo, 2012) which is rooted in the Asian cultures shame based cultural mechanics. To interpret a culture we must begin to understand the very patterns of thought are culturally based and vary from culture to culture because they are culturally constructed (Zweifel, 2003, p 14-15). In the case of the Asian culture, honor and shame becomes an integral part of the cultural patterns of communication. These patterns serve to: preserve smooth interpersonal relationships, maintain harmony, minimize potential conflict, restore community solidarity and facilitate communication between the various levels of society (Elmer, 1993, p 54). The practical foundation to overcoming cultural conflict is rooted in the concept of developing friendships over issues of profit and politics. Westerns view relationships as less important than in other cultures (Zweifel, 2003, p 44), while Easterners pay more attention to relationships (Zweifel, 2003, p 15). Stagich (2001) argues ?the fundamental values essential for effective collaboration include reciprocal benefit, mutual respect, appreciation of diverse contributions, and a shared understanding of how these values work in the collaborative group process (p 16).

Zweifel (2003) said we must learn to interact with people as individuals and not as culture? (p 36). Only when we connect with the person do we begin to understand and connect with their culture.

Katy Perry and Baptiste Giabiconi: Twitpic Love!

Katy Perry and rumored rebound beau Baptiste Giabiconi have been playing it coy as far as the romance rumors go ... but here they are in a cute Twitpic!

The hunk personally Tweeted a picture of the duo cuddling up this past weekend.

"@katyperry hey my #littlekats u look So amazing in this pics!:)" he wrote. Aww.

Katy Perry and Baptiste Giabiconi

The duo has become inseparable as Perry makes her way around Europe this week, with Baptiste Giabiconi, a model and aspiring singer, fielding equal measures of abuse and encouragement over his rumored dalliance with Katy.

No official confirmation about their relationship status, of course. She's not one for the celebrity gossip. Good ol' Bapts did actually clarify one matter, however.

"Sorry i m not gay!" he wrote in response to a follower asking if he was. Yeah. And that's probably the closest thing to a response we can expect from either.

(AP) ? Republicans are ready to ram through the House an election-year, $3.5 trillion budget that showcases their deficit-cutting plan for revamping Medicare and slicing everything from food stamps to transportation while rejecting President Barack Obama's call to raise taxes on the rich.

The blueprint by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., was headed for all but certain House passage Thursday, mostly along party lines. It faces a demise that is just as sure in the Democratic-run Senate, which plans to ignore it, but the battle remains significant because of the clarity with which it contrasts the two parties' budgetary visions for voters.

Republicans were focused on sharper deficit reduction and starkly less government than Democrats wanted and were proposing to lower income tax rates while erasing many unspecified tax breaks. Obama and Democrats were ready to boost taxes on families making above $250,000 and on oil and gas companies, add spending for roads and schools and cull more modest savings from domestic programs.

"This is the American taxpayers' money, and we ought to be more protective of it," House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, told reporters Thursday.

Democrats said they, too, were eager to stanch deficits that now exceed $1 trillion annually. But they said it needed to be done in a more balanced way, with rich and poor alike sharing the load.

"It's a path to greater prosperity ? if you're already wealthy," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, top Democrat on the Budget panel, mocking the "Path to Prosperity" title Ryan has given his document. "Because our Republican colleagues refuse to ask millionaires to contribute one cent to deficit reduction, they hit everyone and everything else."

In a pair of preliminary votes expected Thursday, conservatives were offering their own proposal with deeper spending cuts and far faster deficit-reduction than the GOP plan, claiming to balance the budget in just five years. Democrats were pushing a measure featuring pumped-up spending for education and new tax credits for companies creating jobs and raising wages, while claiming savings from winding down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, government waste and reductions in farm payments.

Both were destined to be defeated.

Underscoring the prickly partisan gulf over how to tackle the budget's drastic imbalances, the House late Wednesday on a 382-38 vote easily shot down a compromise, bipartisan deficit-cutting plan by moderates of both parties that mingled tax increases with spending cuts.

The measure was modeled roughly on a package produced by Obama's deficit-reduction commission. The commission's plan drew praise from prominent deficit foes but was treated coolly by Obama and congressional leaders of both parties.

The House also voted 414-0 Wednesday to reject Obama's budget, with Democrats accusing the GOP of forcing the vote to embarrass them. Democrats were concerned Republicans would use campaign ads to link Democrats who supported Obama's plan to all of its details, including tax increases and boosts for unpopular programs.

Congress' budget is a nonbinding road map that suggests tax and spending changes that lawmakers should make in separate, later legislation.

Particularly with voters deciding control of the White House and the Capitol in November, the two parties are sure to stalemate each other's budgetary priorities until after the election.

The House GOP budget would cut spending by $5.3 trillion more over the next decade than Obama's would ? out of more than $40 trillion that would still be spent during that period. It envisions repeal of the president's health care overhaul and sets a course for deep reductions for highway and rail projects, research and aid to college students and farmers while easing planned defense cuts.

It also would cut taxes by $2 trillion more than the president over that time, leaving Republicans seeking about $3.3 trillion in deeper deficit reduction than Obama.

Drawing the most political heat was Ryan's plan for Medicare, the $500 billion-a-year health insurance program for older Americans that all agree is growing so fast that its future financing is shaky. Both parties know that seniors vote in high numbers and care passionately about the program.

Republicans would leave the plan alone for retirees and those near retirement, letting the government continue paying much of their doctors' and hospital bills.

For younger people, Medicare would be reshaped into a voucher-like system in which the government would subsidize people's health care costs, which Republicans say would drive down federal costs by giving seniors a menu of options that would compete with each other. Democrats say government payments won't keep up with the rapid inflation of medical costs, leaving many beneficiaries struggling to afford the care they need.

"It ends the Medicare guarantee," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said of Ryan's budget.

"This plan doesn't end the Medicare guarantee," said Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz. "Arithmetic does. Unless we change something, unless we put it on a solvent footing, the Medicare guarantee is gone."

Republicans would turn Medicaid, the nearly $300 billion-a-year federal-state health insurance program for the poor, into a grant that states could use as they wish. They also would trim its growth by $800 billion over the next decade.

Three Ways Your Sales Team Will Ruin Your Business | Conrey is ...

Thanks for being a part of this! You should keep reading via RSS or Email or follow me @conrey.

RIP

Is your sales team killing your business? Seems counterintuitive, but sadly it is more common that you think. There are many ways they can kill your business in the exploding-train-derailment sort of way, but most of you know how to prevent those. What you are probably missing are these three ways your sales team is killing you slowly:

  1. Saying Yes to Every Deal: Raise your hand if you think your sales team?s job is to go out and get every piece of business that they can find. Now those of you raising your hand please take that hand and smack yourself. Your sales team?s job is to go out and get the right business for you to complete. It is just as much a function of their job to protect you and your business from bad deals as it is to close good ones. Don?t be afraid to say no to a deal that is going to be more harm than it?s worth.
  2. Lowering Your Prices: As a sales manager or business owner have you ever had a salesman come in and say ?We can win this deal, but only if we drop our price to ?.?? Remember that hand you raised earlier and smacked yourself with? Hit them with it next time they ask this. I?m guessing you had a pretty good idea of what you thought your value proposition was when you sent them out into the wild to sell for you. Lowering your prices is a great way to bleed off margin, make for additional stress for everyone in accounting, and kill any chance you have of making the right money on this customer or any referrals they send. More importantly, the first time you lower the price it will feel really bad, you?ll think about it for a while, and then ultimately decide it?s the right play. But the second time it?s not so hard, and it gets progressively easier until without even realizing it you?ve lowered your bar entirely.
  3. The Client is Always Right: Yup, the tried and true mantra of customer service will kill you. I?m all for pleasing and delighting the customer as much as the next guy, but if you?ve failed at one or both of the above things, my guess is you?ve got clients in the pool who are demanding more of your time or product for less return, holding you hostage for payments because they want ?one more thing?, or generally making your life hell because they?re never quite happy. Remember that clients are made just like you and I, human and imperfect. They?ll be wrong just as often as you, and while you shouldn?t go pointing out all of their flaws, you should be willing to draw a line in the sand when you have to. Sometimes you just have the better position to fight from.

No go forth and diagnose these problems within your organization and make the changes to prevent them from leading to a slow painful death.

Middle school boys who are reluctant readers value reading more after using e-readers

Middle school boys who are reluctant readers value reading more after using e-readers

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Middle school boys rated reading more valuable as an activity after two months of using an e-reader, according to a new study.

The findings come from a study of 199 middle school students who struggle with reading and who participated in a reading improvement class that included Amazon's Kindle e-reader, said one of the study's authors, Dara Williams-Rossi, Southern Methodist University, Dallas.

The researchers found that boys consistently had a higher self-concept of their reading skill than girls both before and after using the e-readers. After use of the e-readers, boys' attitudes about the value of reading improved, while girls' attitudes declined, said Williams-Rossi, an assistant clinical professor in the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development at SMU.

Technology motivated boys; girls appear to prefer actual books

"The technology appeared to motivate the boys to read, while many girls preferred the actual books," said Williams-Rossi, who is also director of undergraduate programs in Simmons. "The data showing the girls' preference were statistically significant and particularly intriguing. This is part of a 3-year study and this data came midway through, so we are continuing our investigation and interviewing girls to understand their reaction to the e-readers. It may be that they prefer curling up with actual books and that they enjoy sharing their reading with their friends."

Among the findings, students generally liked using e-readers and many felt that using it helped their reading improve. Sixth- and seventh-graders were more enthusiastic than eighth-graders about the e-readers, the researchers found.

Based on anecdotal comments from the children, the researchers found the e-readers sparked excitement among the students, resulting in positive attention for the students in the reading improvement classes. Over the course of the study, word about the e-readers spread around the school, and students who weren't in reading improvement classes began asking how they could join "the Kindle classes."

Access to Internet a challenge; boosts need for teacher monitoring

For the study, the researchers provided e-books on the Kindle e-readers to 199 students at an urban middle school in Texas. The students had about 15 to 25 minutes during their silent reading improvement class period to read high-interest chapter books and stories on the Kindle. Books included 25 classics, including The Wizard of Oz and Black Beauty, as well as ghost stories and scary stories, which were the most popular. Students said they read between one and four e-books over the course of the two-month study.

Teachers generally thought the e-readers were better at getting their reluctant readers engaged, but they reported being frustrated by students' easy Internet access through the district's Wi-Fi, which required them to monitor the students more closely. Also, the teachers had to spend time keeping the e-readers charged, checked-out and locked up each night, but teachers told the researchers they plan to incorporate e-readers into their classes in coming years.

Overall, the students and their two teachers rated the experience as highly satisfying. In asking individual students what they liked about the e-readers, they said they liked not having to carry a lot of books; they liked other students not knowing their reading level or choice of book; and they liked that the book they were reading was always available and hadn't been removed from the classroom. The voice-to-text feature was popular with students for whom English is a second language.

In describing their reactions to the e-readers, students advised improvements to the Kindle and the books: a light, so it can be read in the dark; pictures; more books; and graphic novels.

Middle schoolers read less than younger students; "boring way to spend time"

Study findings were published in the International Journal of Applied Science and Technology as "Reluctant Readers in Middle School: Successful Engagement with Text Using the E-Reader," authored by Williams-Rossi with three other researchers, all from Fort Worth, Texas: Twyla Miranda, Texas Wesleyan University; Kary A. Johnson, The Reading Connection; and Nancy McKenzie, Tarrant Community College. A link to the study is at http://tinyurl.com/d3b6avw.

"It's inevitable that e-reader technology will enter school classrooms," said the authors. "Our study presents reasons e-readers may be beneficial, in particular, to reluctant readers in middle grades."

Previous research in the field has shown that upper elementary and middle school students tend to read less than younger students because of time spent with their friends and in other activities. Also, these same students, particularly boys, may not value reading as much as they did when they were younger. One study found that most students indicated reading is a "boring way to spend time."

Among those students, research has shown that low-skilled readers have trouble starting, continuing and finishing a book, and that they are stymied by vocabulary and reading comprehension challenges. Skilled readers, on the other hand, enjoy books.

Researchers have suggested that technological gadgets, enlarged text and a more favorable environment might encourage reluctant readers. For those reasons the authors pursued a study to see how reluctant readers would respond to e-readers. Rotary International Club purchased the e-readers for the research.

Can you learn how to write novels, or does it require a special gift? The nub of this question is about skill versus ability - skills can be learned, abilities are innate. Arguably, writing is a skill. However, the quality of your work will depend on ability.
Here are my personal guidelines to help you make a start writing books. Many writers will tell you that going on creative writing courses will help. Maybe. I learned most of them the hard way.
Know The Competition
Read widely in your genre - you need to know the competition, particularly the best writers. This is a good place to begin learning how to write novels, because you see what sells (but remember that good marketing can sell poor quality work).
Plan The Story In Advance (Or Not)
Many successful writers start out with a plan for a book: start, middle and end, with the plan pinned up on a wall. Then they add character profiles and flesh them out. It is much easier to do this if you have a plot in mind. I just can't write books this way even if I have a good plot to start with. I like writing a book to be a journey of discovery for me as well as the reader. Find which method works for you.
How To Write Novels - Sit Down And Write
It will force you to think about 'point of view' ('POV'). Who is speaking in the story you are writing - that is, whose point of view is it? There are many technical perspectives here, but the rule is - decide your POV and stick to it.
A Plot Will Emerge
Don't worry if you don't have a plot. Imagine your main character (MC), and start describing him. Then, describe a typical day. Where is the MC - maybe at a beach you know well? Many authors set their stories in their home town.
The act of writing should engage your brain and your creative side.
The school of life is a wonderful teacher, so draw on your experiences whenever you can. People write best about what they know. Research thoroughly those areas you don't know well, making notes as you go along.
If you are still struggling to develop a plot, then go back to your main character, and spoil his day. Maybe an accident happens to him, or his home gets burgled. Write about that, about what led up to those events, who the players were. Was it a conspiracy? Did he have a secret life?
Show And Tell
Many writers tell the bulk of the story using dialogue between characters ('showing') in preference to a plain narrative, which can become tedious unless the author is adroit. A good story will have both, though there are authors who can break the 'rules' completely, and get away with it. If you are just starting out, though, and hope to get published, it's best to adhere to the rules.
Grammar And Punctuation
If you are weak in these areas, don't worry, an editor can correct them. Writing books is about much more than grammar if you have a good story to tell. If you really are below par in this respect then it would be best to engage a professional proof editor before sending your manuscript to a prospective publisher or agent.
Finally
The main 'rule' is - just do it. Write the first word, then the sentence and so on. Don't be too ambitious with your early goals. Write your next hundred words. As you write, ideas should spark - note them on a pad, for inclusion later. Join some author forums, and meet other authors - there are thousands of aspiring novelists learning how to write novels, and swapping ideas. It is a great way of learning the craft.

Equipment Lease Finance Industry Confidence up in March ...

The Equipment Leasing & Finance Foundation released the March 2012 Monthly Confidence Index for the Equipment Finance Industry on Friday, March 23. Designed to collect leadership data, the index reports a qualitative assessment of both the prevailing business conditions and expectations for the future as reported by key executives from the $628 billion equipment finance sector

Overall, confidence in the equipment finance market is 61.7, up from the February index of 59.6, indicating industry participants are optimistic despite concerns that external factors, including gas prices and the upcoming elections, may have on the market.

?I still remain optimistic, but it seems that increasing gas prices, looming elections and lack of comfort with future government regulation have created a rather sluggish first quarter as far as the small business marketplace is concerned,? says Valerie Jester, president of Brandywine Capital Associates. ?We had hoped to see sustained momentum from strong fourth-quarter activity, but it has yet to appear.?

Air Canada wildcat strike ordered over

Report an error

Markham?s Trevor Jones was among thousands of travellers who missed flights and had their day ruined at Pearson International and other Canadian airports due to a 12-hour wildcat strike by more than 100 Air Canada ground workers.

A disappointed Jones, 50, was travelling on Friday to Cleveland to be best man at a friend?s wedding.

?I have the wedding ring with me but it doesn?t look like I?m getting on a plane,? Jones said. ?The wedding is today and I am in this huge line trying to get a flight.?

The striking members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers ?occupied? a section of Terminal 1 at the Toronto airpot on Friday, waving large union banners inside the building.

A few union activists booed as their leaders read an arbitrator?s decision calling for them to return to work on Friday or each face a fine of $1,000 a day, or even criminal charges.

The workers began the wildcat walkout at 10 p.m. Thursday in support of three colleagues who they claimed had their security passes removed by officials and sent home after allegedly heckling Labour Minister Lisa Raitt, who had arrived on a flight at the terminal.

Earlier this month, Raitt intervened in Air Canada?s contract disputes with pilots and machinists and the federal government passed legislation to prevent a lockout or strike.

The walkout, that ended shortly around 10 a.m. on Friday, led to some members screaming at union official Chuck Atkinson, who told them the suspended workers can return to work but face a 72-hour suspension.

The disruption led to the cancellation of more than 200 Air Canada flights in Toronto and Montreal, Quebec City and Vancouver, where workers also walked of the job in a show of solidarity. Most of the airline?s flights in North America were affected.

MP Tony Clement, Treaury Board president, wasn?t pleased by the delays and said he would be flying WestJet.

?I think anybody who uses illegal job action to make their point is actually hurting their own cause,? he told QMI Agency. ?I?m sorry but you don?t have the right to illegally walk off the job and wildcat.?

When striking workers followed him through Pearson on Friday, shouting things such as, ?We live in a democracy, Tony,? he bluntly retorted: ?See you guys on WestJet.?

Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said the airline managed to obtain an injunction against the striking workers and expects the ?unions will obey the law.?

Air Canada has promised to waive fees for anyone who has to change their flight and is encouraging passengers to check AirCanada.com or call 1-888-247-2262 to check the status of their flights.

(AP) ? A submarine that will take "Titanic" director James Cameron to the Earth's deepest point has made a successful unmanned test dive.

Cameron tells National Geographic News that his specially designed submarine called Deepsea Challenger completed the nearly 7-mile test dive Wednesday. The team returned to calmer waters and was headed back to the site Saturday.

If all goes well, he'll spend about six hours exploring and filming the bottom of the Mariana Trench, about 200 miles southwest of the Pacific island of Guam.

Swiss engineer Jacques Piccard and U.S. Navy Capt. Don Walsh are the only other men to reach the spot. They spent about 20 minutes there during their 1960 dive but couldn't see much after their sub kicked up sand from the sea floor.

It has emerged that the dog that mauled the officers may have been responsible for another attack on a passer-by last year.

Officers were sent to investigate reports that a cyclists had been bitten by a dog in April 2011 but no arrests were made.

Commander Stephen Watson, commander for north-east London, said: "This allegation was not picked up in the intelligence assessment prior to today's operation, and this now forms part of my review of today's events."

BlackBerry loses its home advantage, Apple now biggest smartphone vendor in Canada

In a sign of intensifying man-animal conflict in parts of Rajasthan, four persons were killed in animal attacks in less than one month, jerking the government into action.

Morpali Meena (55) and Ashfaq (20) were mauled by tigers in Ranthambore National Park area in Sawaimadhopur on February 16 and March 8 respectively.

In Dholpur, a bear killed middle aged men Rambabu Gujjar and Tej Singh Kushwaha and injured a few others in March. The animal was later killed by villagers.

Expressing concern over the incident, state Forest Minister Bina Kak said, "I am worried with this rising trend (of man-animal conflict) and have directed officials to make more efforts for controlling such incidents.

"I have asked officials to increase the height of the forest wall around Ranthambhore park from existing six feet to stop illegal entry of people who go there to collect firewood," she said.

"Tracking of wild animals, particularly those of big cats, will also be strengthened and senior officials will have to monitor the activity closely," she said. Forest officer of Dholpur, Jai Prakash, said the body of the bear has not been recovered so far and it is suspected to have been burnt.

"We are registering a case under relevant sections of Wild Life Act," he said.

Besides these incidents, a leopard was found dead in Sariska in Alwar district on March 8 and official suspect it to be a case of paching. "This is another worrying factor," an official said.

In November 2010, a tiger was poisoned to death by some villagers in Sariska tiger reserve, in a setback to the programme for revival of tiger population in Sariska.

Top Republican super PAC donors backing Romney

(AP) ? Major contributors to a key Republican political organization founded by political strategist Karl Rove have boosted their financial support for Mitt Romney, signaling that the GOP's big money may be starting to coalesce around Romney's candidacy, according to an analysis by The Associated Press of federal election data released Tuesday.

Wealthy GOP donors like Bob Perry, Philip H. Geier Jr. and Jerry Perenchio collectively provided much of the $6.4 million in contributions last month to the pro-Romney "super" political committee Restore Our Future, mostly from Perry's $3 million contribution, according to campaign records submitted to the Federal Election Commission.

The donors also are among the most generous contributors to American Crossroads, the super PAC founded by Rove, who was a top adviser to President George W. Bush. Crossroads is likely to become the pre-eminent GOP group airing negative advertisements against President Barack Obama this year.

The new campaign reports illustrate the financial advantage that Romney ? the winner in Tuesday's Illinois primary ? harnessed heading into Super Tuesday primary elections. Romney, ahead in the count of Republican delegates, was aided by more than $29 million worth of ads paid for by Restore Our Future, the super PAC supporting his campaign.

That $29 million figure is higher than spending by any other Republican super PAC or campaign, including Romney's own campaign. Super PACs, like Romney's and Rove's groups, are not permitted under federal law to coordinate directly with campaigns ? but the PACs often pay for media campaigns that allow the candidates to concentrate on state organizations and get-out-the vote efforts.

So far, other GOP candidates have struggled to keep up with the financial support that Romney's candidacy has enjoyed. Gingrich, the former House speaker who won the South Carolina and Georgia primaries, collected only $2.6 million last month while spending roughly $2.8 million during the same period, his campaign said. Much of his support has come in the form of ads from Winning Our Future, which received a $5 million infusion from Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and his wife, Miriam.

The Rick Santorum-supportive super PAC ? the Red, White and Blue Fund ? brought in $2.9 million last month, including $600,000 from longtime supporter and Wyoming businessman Foster Friess. Santorum's own campaign pulled in about $8.9 million in contributions during the same period when he saw a surge in support.

All told, the money flowing to Republican super PACs is expected to counterbalance cash flowing to Obama's campaign, which has raised more than $120 million in total contributions as of Feb. 29. The political committee supporting Obama, Priorities USA Action, collected $2 million last month.

Romney has lost several Southern primaries, but his campaign raised more than $11 million in February. Helping his campaign ? albeit independently under federal law ? Restore Our Future has spent millions on attack ads against rivals Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum.

Perry, 79, previously gave $1 million to the pro-Romney super PAC in addition to his $3 million last month. He also gave $2.5 million to Rove's group. He heads a major Houston-based homebuilding empire and has been a million-dollar player among GOP fundraisers since the late 1990s, working closely with candidates and causes tied to Rove. Perry was a big money contributor to Bush's campaigns for Texas governor and was a top bundler for his 2000 presidential race.

Geier, 77, a veteran advertising man, gave $100,000 to the pro-Romney group after previously donating $250,000 as well as giving $500,000 to Rove's group. He is chairman emeritus of the New York-headquartered Geier Group, a global media company. Geier was a campaign bundler for Sen. John McCain's 2000 presidential campaign and has given to the Republican National Committee, as well as to GOP leaders like Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.

Perenchio, 81, gave $500,000 and has donated $3 million to Rove's group since 2010. He is a former chairman for the Spanish-language Univision television network. He was a top bundler for McCain's 2008 presidential campaign. Perenchio, who heads Chartwell Partners LLC, gave $10,000 last year to the National Republican Congressional Committee and $5,000 to the re-election campaign of House Speaker John Boehner.

In 2004, Perry was the largest single donor to the Swift Boat Vets and POWs for Truth, giving nearly $5 million to the tax-exempt organization. The group, composed of Vietnam War-era Navy veterans, was blamed for misleading attacks on Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry's service as a Swift Boat officer in Vietnam. Perry also gave $3 million that cycle to the Progress for America Voter Fund, another group supporting Bush.

When Texas Gov. Rick Perry ? he is no relation to Bob Perry ? entered the Republican presidential race in 2011 against Romney, Perry at first supported his home state candidate, giving $100,000 to a super PAC supporting the Texan's candidacy. But as Rick Perry's campaign faltered, Bob Perry shifted his allegiance to Romney. He gave $1 million last year before his massive $3 million donation last month.

Others who gave to the group supporting Romney:

?Kenneth C. Griffin, 43, a top hedge fund director, gave $100,000 to Restore Our Future after donating $100,000 earlier along with $300,000 to Rove's group last year. Griffin heads the Chicago-based Citadel Investment Group and was a McCain bundler in 2008. Last year, he gave $38,000 to the RNC and $22,500 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee, as well as thousands more to GOP candidates including Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia and Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts.

?Harold Simmons, 80, gave $100,000 following an earlier $100,000 donation in January. He also gave $100,000 last month to Winning Our Future, the super PAC supporting Gingrich; his wife, Annette, gave $1 million to the Red, White and Blue Fund. A billionaire, Simmons was the top benefactor for Rove's group, providing $12 million between his personal checkbook and the coffers of Texas-based Contran Corp., a holding company with interests including chemicals and waste management.

Simmons rivaled Perry as a $4 million contributor to the Swift Boat group in 2004 and was a bundler for the Bush and McCain presidential campaigns. In addition to his $12 million donation to Rove's group, Simmons has also given more than $200,000 to GOP candidates and party PACS and groups.
