A 25-year-old homeless man stole a golf cart from a Treasure Coast home Monday afternoon, drove it until it ran out of power and then stole another cart from a nearby home Tuesday morning, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Ken Mascara said Tyler Tolle admitted to stealing a golf cart and driving it until it ran out of power. Then, Mascara said, Tolle stole another one the next day, "claiming he was going to return it when he got back from the store."

The owner of the second stolen cart caught Tolle riding it Tuesday, stopped him and called authorities.

Mascara said Tolle told deputies he took the second golf cart because it was against the law for the owner to leave the keys in the ignition.

Both carts were recovered.

Tolle was arrested on grand theft charges, Mascara said.
